Effect of Novel CoronaVirus on Public Interactions
Posted on 14 Feb 2020; 07:00 PM IST. Last Updated: 14 Feb 2020; 07:00 PM IST.Summary: This article categorizes public interactions based on population densities, and raises the question on how and to what extent, novel coronavirus (Covid19) could impact, high density public interactions.
Public interactions may be broadly classified as follows, based on the place of work.
Category-1 (low-density):
IT/Semiconductor/Telecom industry, Research Labs, and Headquarters of many Organizations.
Category-2 (medium density):
Manufacturing, Shopping Malls, Hotels, Shipping, Social Organizations, and Banks.
Category-3 (high density):
Schools, Colleges, Transport (Flights/ Trains/ Buses/ hubs), Movie-Theaters, Sports complexes, Political Campaigners, Police, and Army.
Note: Some industries and organizations, may overlap across the categories, or may fit in-between the above categories.
A quarantined cruise ship, is close to a Category-1 interaction or even better.
The news from the cruise ship quarantined in Japan is "especially bad" because it reflects, how Category-1 interactions can be affected by the virus. This raises the big question on the fate of people in Category-2 and Category-3, who interact in a higher density environment.
